Discover Sta Cruz Island: One of the Top Beaches in the Philppines

Somebody said, do not be a stranger in your own place.

That is exactly how i felt after reading on Yahoo news that the top 7 beaches in the Philippines includes the pink sand Sta. Cruz Island in my hometown Zamboanga City.

CNN news has included the Sta. Cruz Island among "The Philippines best beaches and Islands" too!

I know the place. I have heard about just how beautiful the island is, but I have not been there. It is a shame that i have not step foot on one of the beautiful beaches in the country, and i am supposed to be a local.

So in 2013, at 34 years old, I made sure I was going to make that trip to the beautiful island of Sta. Cruz! I have to admit, I had my fear, but my excitement supercedes all worries.

At last, I can finally say, I HAVE BEEN THERE!

The Island as what they have described it, is BEAUTIFUL! The white and pink sand is amazing. I love the fact that the place is not developed, with just a washroom and some cottages. There are no restaurants around or sari-sari store, so you have to bring your own food and drinks. There are barbeque pits available at the area in case you want to grill your food. The island is clean, so please throw your rubbish in the thrash bin provided in the island.

Do note this is strictly a Day Trip affair, which is only 30 minutes from Paseo Del Mar. The ride by the way, will be escorted by a Police.

If you love discovering beautiful places, Sta Cruz Island will not fail you.
Great Santa Cruz Island is a small inhabited island in Zambaonga City in the southern region of the Philippines that is famous for its pink coralline sand .The island, located 4km (2.49mi) south of downtown at the Santa Cruz Bank in the Basilan Strait, boasts the only pink sand in the Philippines. The color of the sand comes from the pulverized red organ pipe coral from eons of surf erosion mixed with the white sand. - Wikipedia

Such priceless photo. Mindanao has beaches far more beautiful than boracay and palawan but we've been riddled by bullets for so many years that no one wishes visit our beautiful province.
